The TA is what helps the British Army function properly and without them they would not be able to do their jobs to the same standards that people have come to expect.  The TA accounts for roughly one quarter of the Army and they are constantly taking part in operations at home and abraod.

The TA wasn't organised in Northern Ireland until 1947 although there were two small units but they did not serve in either of the wars.

Shortly after 1967 the TA called themselves The Royal Irish Rangers, a name which they still retain today.

The TA will always be a useful and vital resource within the British Army.  There has always been a healthy competitiveness between the Army and the TA but they will always be there if either one needs them.

Everyone who joins the TA, enters as a soldier first and then it is their decision how far they go from there.  Many questions that people ask is "can I join the TA but still hold onto my civilian job?"  The answer is yes because no matter what job you do, the TA will do its best to cater for your needs and to work around the hours that you retain at your full time/part time job, so you wont need to give up one job for the other.
